What started as a vision between two friends expanded into the community’s most beloved spot. Lashonda Mathis, co-owner of Peach Cobbler Factory, said she was very excited to be a part of something so special and soon joined because she believed in her friend’s vision.
Almost immediately upon entering the shop, the pleasantly sweet aroma of peach-flavored sweets hits one’s nose. With a menu consisting of cobblers, cinnamon rolls, cookies, coffee, tea, banana pudding, and more, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The hard-working one-woman army of Mathis made more than 10 meals for the NABJ JSHOP participants, which took no longer than 20 minutes to prepare. Mathis pulled off this feat while also dealing with an influx of her regular customers. The volume of orders is just one hardship of running this business.
In addition, Mathis is the founder and CEO of the nonprofit “I Can Remember.” This nonprofit was founded to show how people can change and rebuild relationships. This hits close to home for Mathis, as she went through struggles of losing her kids and substance abuse in the past. However, no matter how many hardships she faced, Mathis still overcame them, having her kids granted back and celebrating 19 years clean from drugs and alcohol.
Working in a business can have a substantial number of challenges. Although Mathis was not there during the earliest challenges the two owners faced, she has become an essential part of the Peach Cobbler Factory, helping the business grow with love, passion, and a commitment to something so lovable.
Growing up in Florida, Mathis said that what sets her desserts apart from everyone else is how good the desserts are. She said that in Florida, “They take their time.” She brought her patience and care here in Georgia to make an abundance of tasty desserts.
Mathis shared some advice for other business owners. She encouraged people to have “integrity, being prompt, being on time, and just following the rules, following the leaders; once you have good workers-good individuals, everything will run smoothly.”
