Glaciers Italian Ice is an Atlanta nonprofit that not only serves ice-cold sweets but also provides a safe place for young people.
Founded in 2021 by Ian Elmore-Moore, Glaciers Italian Ice has a vision to “create a world in which our youth and young adults are optimistic about their future.” He started the organization to respond to more than 1,000 calls to police complaining about young people in Atlanta selling water and allegedly scamming passersby in their cars, informally known as the “Atlanta Water Boyz.”
Glaciers Italian Ice is an entrepreneurship program that, in addition to Italian ice, offers counseling, study hall and financial literacy as well as movie and game nights. Elmore-Moore calls the young people in the program Mountaineers. “They’re always climbing mountains or hurdles and obstacles in their life,” he said.
One of the Mountaineers is 17-year-old Adari Butler, who has been a part of the program for two years. “It did help me overall become a better young man,” Butler said. It taught him how to control his emotions and be consistent, he said.
Glaciers Italian Ice provides a place for young men to learn and grow in Atlanta with a side of Italian ice. Glaciers Italian Ice has two locations: 1996 Sylvan Road SW and 1089 Allene Ave. SW.
