The National Association of Black Journalists Visual Task Force is hosting a photo auction featuring work from Black photographers who capture the Black experience globally. The auction will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, on the second floor of the Hilton Chicago. The average starting bid for a piece is around $150. All proceeds from the auction will go toward the NABJ Scholarship Fund.
The photography includes quintessential figures and places such as Fred Hampton, Muhammad Ali, Barack and Michelle Obama, Jackie Robinson, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and James Baldwin. Other photos capture Black life in the early 20th century, particularly in Chicago, including images of the linotype operators of the Chicago Defender. Additionally, there is photography of children and students from Haiti, Cuba, and across the African diaspora.
