In an outpouring of grief, community members filled the New Mount Pilgrim Church in Chicago Tuesday night to call for justice for Sonya Massey, a Black woman killed by a sheriff\u2019s deputy in her Springfield home after calling 911 for help .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The crowd chanted \u201cNo justice, no peace,\u201d and \u201cWhat do we want? Justice,\u201d led by the Rev. Al Sharpton and the Massey family attorney Ben Crump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Massey was shot in the head July 6 by Sangamon County sheriff\u2019s deputy Sean Grayson. Public outrage erupted after bodycam video of the shooting was released July 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Massey\u2019s son Malachi recalled how he received a call from the hospital at 5 a.m. telling him his mother had been shot. When he asked who shot her, he received no reply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sharpton called for a new law in Illinois named for Sonya Massey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
