{"id":1368,"date":"2019-08-09T19:07:14","date_gmt":"2019-08-10T00:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nabjmonitor.com\/2025\/?p=1368"},"modified":"2022-08-02T18:22:14","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T23:22:14","slug":"she-did-it-her-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabjmonitor.com\/2025\/she-did-it-her-way\/","title":{"rendered":"She did it her way"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Outgoing President Sarah Glover reflects on her two terms at the helm of NABJ<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By Elaijah Gibbs-Jones<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>NABJ Monitor<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outgoing NABJ President Sarah Glover is hours away from ending two consecutive terms during which she closed the organization\u2019s fiscal gap, found new revenues, expanded its mission overseas and continued to promote advocacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glover embraced \u201cher way\u201d of leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of Glover\u2019s three promises to the NABJ organization was to return it to solid financial ground anchored by an industry-recognized strategic plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s projected revenue was set for $2.9 million. As of June 1, NABJ has generated $3 million in revenues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other two initiatives included igniting NABJ\u2019s advocacy efforts and running a Media Institute to attract new fundraising and support. This resulted in the launch of Glover\u2019s \u201clabor of love,\u201d The Black Male Media project, and expanded the global outreach programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor the first time, we have touched down in Asia, China, the Middle East, Latin America and Colombia,\u201d Glover said. \u201cThat\u2019s a huge expansion of NABJ\u2019s footprint.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many executive board members view Glover\u2019s financial success as her strongest contribution to NABJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><div style=\"width: 100%;\"><div style=\"position: relative; padding-bottom: 250.00%; padding-top: 0; height: 0;\"><iframe frameborder=\"0\" width=\"800px\" height=\"2000px\" style=\"position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/view.genial.ly\/5d4c682a74fa550fa7ab270f\" type=\"text\/html\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" scrolling=\"yes\" allownetworking=\"all\"><\/iframe> <\/div> <\/div><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen Sarah came on in 2015 as president, NABJ was in a semi-crisis financially. We had to take care of a lot of things to get our house in order,\u201d said Treasurer Greg Morrison. \u201cShe was willing to make some choices and decisions that helped turn us around.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Region III Director Ken Lemon said bringing NABJ\u2019s budget into the black would help spur investments into programs and scholarships.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glover said if she were to have more time in office, she would raise another $1 million for grants for the organization.
