{"id":1158,"date":"2019-08-08T16:58:24","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T21:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nabjmonitor.com\/2025\/?p=1158"},"modified":"2022-08-03T14:44:23","modified_gmt":"2022-08-03T19:44:23","slug":"miami-conference-sets-a-new-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabjmonitor.com\/2025\/miami-conference-sets-a-new-record\/","title":{"rendered":"A record 4,000 flock to Miami conference"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Cierra Ivey<br>N<em>ABJ Monitor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NABJ\u2019s membership flocked to Florida, breaking records at this convention in Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 4,000 journalists have registered for the convention, exceeding the record for Atlanta conference attendees in 2005.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt shows the level of interest and the value that people are placing on NABJ for training, getting jobs, getting story ideas and getting technical skills,\u201d said Drew Berry, NABJ\u2019s executive director.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Berry, who released numbers during Tuesday\u2019s NABJ business meeting, said, 3,521 individuals had registered for the conference as of Sunday, but the number has increased since then.&nbsp;By Thursday afternoon, NABJ officials said 4,008 individuals had registered for the convention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"width: 100%;\"><div style=\"position: relative; padding-bottom: 175.00%; padding-top: 0; height: 0;\"><iframe frameborder=\"0\" width=\"685.7142857142857px\" height=\"1200px\" style=\"position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/view.genial.ly\/5d4c8962851dea0fb2c1e957\" type=\"text\/html\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" scrolling=\"yes\" allownetworking=\"all\"><\/iframe> <\/div> <\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re alive and thriving,\u201d Berry said. \u201cMembership is growing. The attendance is growing. The partners and partner participation is growing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minor computer glitches and a rainy week could have slowed the numbers, but members flocked to the convention to gain mentorship, employment and fellowship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year is 80 percent work, work, work and get connected,\u201d said Re\u2019Chelle Turner. \u201cThe other 20 percent is play, because it is Miami.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turner, a reporter for KARK-TV in Little Rock, Arkansas, hopes to learn more and move her career forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year, I came to connect with mentors, connect with people, go to awesome workshops, and also get some feedback on my reel so I can try to move up to the next level,\u201d Turner said.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The largest conference comes with an issue of people congesting popular areas on the resort such as the on-site restaurant, Starbucks and the bar area.
