{"id":690,"date":"2018-08-03T11:16:55","date_gmt":"2018-08-03T16:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nabjmonitor.com\/2024\/?p=690"},"modified":"2021-08-18T11:35:04","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T16:35:04","slug":"old-train-station-heading-in-new-direction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabjmonitor.com\/2024\/old-train-station-heading-in-new-direction\/","title":{"rendered":"Old train station heading in new direction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>By TONY BETTON<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b>NABJ Monitor<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DETROIT \u2014 An eyesore for more than three decades, the Michigan Central Train Station is finally getting a highly anticipated makeover.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XDnwF0hVyuw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dilapidated building is in Corktown, an area east of downtown that has become trendy in recent years. In June, Ford Motor Co. announced it had purchased the 105-year-old building, which has been vacant for more than three decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFord is going to be at the forefront again of helping to push and decide and provide support for how people move around the country,\u201d said Shawn Wilson, Ford multicultural community engagement manager. \u201cIt will be a place you can live, work and play.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Dearborn-based automaker is expected to redevelop the 500,000-square-foot structure as part of its plans for a campus focusing on autonomous vehicles and other technological advances. The automaker also purchased property in the surrounding area of the station with plans to focus on technology and to develop spaces for retail shops, offices and residential housing.
