On the other side of the Detroit River is Windsor, Ontario, in Canada. A short ride through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel or across the Ambassador Bridge will bring you to a new country of fun activities and history. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 2016 Canadian Census, over 1.1 million residents are black. Many may not know that slaves traveled the Underground Railroad and sought freedom in Canada. The Tower of Freedom Underground Railroad Monument in Windsor honors enslaved African Americans who traveled the Underground Railroad. According to Tourism Windsor Essex, the tower depicts the refugees\u2019 arrival into Canada and their overwhelming emotion upon encountering freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Windsor monument is one-half of the International Memorial to the Underground Railroad.
