{"id":598,"date":"2018-08-02T16:19:31","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T21:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nabjmonitor.com\/2024\/?p=598"},"modified":"2023-08-01T11:37:59","modified_gmt":"2023-08-01T16:37:59","slug":"nabj-notables-excited-to-see-convention-come-to-fruition-in-detroit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabjmonitor.com\/2024\/nabj-notables-excited-to-see-convention-come-to-fruition-in-detroit\/","title":{"rendered":"NABJ notables excited to see convention come to fruition in Detroit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By ANFERNEE PATTERSON<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NABJ Monitor<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DETROIT \u2014For Detroit native Jemele Hill, columnist for ESPN\u2019s Undefeated, the 2018 convention \u201cis the most ideal and ultimate homecoming I could ever have.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hill and her honorary convention co-chair Rochelle Riley, a columnist for the Detroit Free-Press, launched the 2018 Opening Ceremony on Wednesday night, alongside President Sarah Glover and other members of the NABJ board of directors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor the convention to be here in Detroit is remarkable,\u201d Hill said. Detroit \u201cgave me my toughness, the chip on my shoulder which helped me become a successful journalist.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NABJ notables and journalists from the host city welcomed a joyful crowd to the conference in a ceremony Wednesday that lasted well over an hour. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marlon A.
